The 1970 GTX has received a main overhaul, but sales still suffered. The convertible model was dropped in 1970. Designers have made smoother lines, also a "power bulge" hood was introduced at the first time, as well as non-functional rear brake air intakes. Instead of having two grooves running length-wise as in 1969, the Air Grabber hood was brought back, had a spoon opening located at the heart of energy.
The GTX was available with the standard 440 +6 (three two-body carburetors), 440 4 barrel and the 426 Hemi. 6 The 440 could compete closely with the Hemi, even at highway speeds. The only other Plymouth model luxury / performance was the full-size Sport Fury GT, built on the C-body platform. The GT was added to the lineup in 1970. According to the marketing strategy, actually GTX 1970 model includes many standard features. The GT has received nowhere near the recognition of the GTX, although they shared many performance features. The Sport Fury GT was a member of the size of rapid transit system. The Sport Fury GT was often seen as more of a mature gentleman luxury car performance.
