Pontiac GTO is a car built by the Pontiac Division of General Motors in the U.S. in 1964-1974, and by GM subsidiary Holden in Australia 2004-2006. It is considered a muscle car that is innovative, and now become a classic of the 1960s and 1970s.

From 1964 until mid-1973 is closely related to the Pontiac Tempest / LeMans in 1974 and for the model was based on the Pontiac Ventura. Century 21, the GTO is essentially left drive Holden Monaro, itself a coupe variant of the Holden Commodore.

The Pontiac GTO is considered by many the first true muscle car. Whereas other manufacturers were the resource persons focusing on His life-size lines, Pontiac saw the potential for dropping a big block engine in a middle frame and sell it at an affordable price.

Pontiac sneaked past the GM restriction on this combination by making the GTO an option on the Tempest model, creating the hottest performance machine yet. The GTO sold in large numbers and fuel the competition between GM, Ford and Chrysler that would keep the muscle car industry thriving for years to come. The GTO would later evolve into the Judge, an extroverted option package of the GTO off, and would continue the tradition until the GTO died embarrassing death in 1974.
